The Harbor Defense Turret is the most basic defense turret in the game. Once built, it can be moved by a heavy lifter from the island's warehouse, to any harbor area of any owned (above-water) island.
Attack Power: -/30/- (6 DPS).
There are numerous range upgrades for the Harbor Defense Turret, and turrets in general. Utilizing both ark and dock upgrades, it is possible to get an astonishing +150% to its maximum range. The vast increase in range gives new options for this simple defense, such as securing entire waterways or getting weapon coverage over enemy harbors. Turrets on outer islands can cut off all avenues of travel into your empire, protecting it from Raiders.
With maintenance reduction upgrades, turrets become nearly free to have on the map. Complete coverage with long range, low upkeep turrets (and Flak) can make vast areas of the map untouchable until long range missiles or nukes become available.
Turrets can not attack hostile structures, should you somehow get one in range. You will however severely affect your enemy's off-shore production as well as the enemy's navy if your lucky enough to catch your enemy's main harbor way, simply because you will block the player's ability to recruit new units or even supply his population with basic goods, unless his using a upgrade such as a flag. Note that this will primarily only count if you have warehouses or depots on-site to block the other shores from the player, which will force the player to build a warehouse on exactly the shore you want him to.
Ark upgrades are persistent across all games that have "Ark Storage" enabled.
Port items aren't researchable; you have to find / buy them.
