Hope this is looking alright for you guys. I made two templates to help.

The first is Template:Devlink, which creates the link at the top. (See source of this page.) Note it can't automatically stick itself to the top, so it must be at the top of the page. This'll help keep the pages linked together. (It'd be nice to create a custom namespace for these so this was done automatically, like template pages, but we don't have free reign over the wiki's LocalSettings.php file.)

The second is for the table on the front page, Template:Devtable. It'll be more useful if that table gets super long. It also makes date formatting a snap. (Well it should if you input the date right. It'll also take Unix time codes, as long as they are preceded by the @ symbol.)

One last thing. It might help if we stick our signatures on a separate line, perhaps. I think it'll help with the wall-of-texty-ness (but by all means you're welcome to disagree).

One other thing: Would it help if we create a template to format long posts more like a real forum? Shouldn't be too hard, and it might help clean the pages a little. (My idea is to create a simple table for this. I think it should even be doable to automate the time-stamps.) --Cphoenix (talk) 21:53, December 16, 2011 (UTC)

Here's an example. Signature code in templates behaves strangely, so, bah:

did you try 4 tildas instead of 5? --deathApril 02:14, December 17, 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately that would necessitate that the time stamp and username be together, and I had wanted to separate them (to generally keep the time stamp from turning into soup in the small left column). Without a way to take the output from ~~~~ and separate it (no regular expressions here :( ), the template needs the user to do it. I don't think there's a way to get a template to stamp the thing properly either, since if the signature code is in a template (even inside includeonly tags), the template page itself is stamped with the signature of the person making the first edit that calls the template.
We could just put the signature at the top in it's own row if it's a bother. (And stick it in the bottom row too Perhaps. These discussions tend to get wordy.) --Cphoenix (talk) 02:32, December 17, 2011 (UTC)

Okay, how about this?
